Somewhere over the rainbow

Hi Everyone,

So heres goes with my first ever blog post! First of all thank you so much for stopping by to have a look at my blog.  I hope this blog will develop and grow as my baking does likewise and intend to keep it as a baking diary of sorts.  I love to bake and have a special love for baking cupcakes and cakes and decorating them in various and interesting ways.

I recently attended 'Cupcake Camp' a charity event held in Queens University Belfast, where amatuer and professional bakers brought cupcakes to sell, all the money raised was then donated to Marie Curie cancer care.  The whole event was great fun and it was great to meet like minded cupcake enthusiasts from the local area.  For this event I tried to make a new cupcake which I had never baked before, called a 'rainbow cake' and this is the theme for my first post.

How to:- Rainbow Cakes:
To make the rainbow cakes the process involved making a normal batch of cupcake batter.  Once the batter was prepared it was then sepersted into six seperate bowls and each was dyed a different colour using food colourings.  The coloured batter was then layered up within the cupcake cases until all colours had been added.  I topped the cakes off with a covering of white cream cheese frosting to look like a cloud and added a fizzy rainbow belt on top.

I was pleased with how the cakes turned out, and it was often not until people bit into the cake that they realised they were coloured inside.  The technique was, however, VERY messy and took a long time to do, I may embark on baking these little gems again but maybe only when I have a bit more time and not so many cakes to make all at once!  Hope you like the pictures. sorry I have none of the baking process, maybe next time I make these I can take a few more pictures to share with you.
